A consideration of art and popular culture as vehicles for understanding Latin American history from the late 1800’s to today. Dynamic primary sources such as songs, films, carnival parades or professional soccer matches, television programs, and works of art will serve as case studies that students will analyze, contextualize, and historicize. Each week considers a different time period and focuses on a particular political, economic, or social movement or ideological trend, using a cultural text of the era to understand each.
