Jorge Agüero received his Ph.D. in Agricultural and Applied Economics (USA) in 2006. He was an Associate Professor of Economics and El Instituto at UConn starting in 2013, when he came from the University of California, Riverside. He was a SALDRU Affiliate at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and an Affiliated Researcher at the Group of Development Analysis, Peru. Since 2011, he was an Associate Editor of the South African Journal of Economics. In 2014-2015, he was a Visiting Scholar in the Research Department of the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington DC. His areas of interest included applied microeconomics, development economics, health economics, and labor economics.
The Department of Economics and El Instituto have partnered with the UConn Foundation team to set up a memorial scholarship fund in honor of Jorge, who passed away in May of 2023. Condolences may be shared online; his obituary is on the Potter Funeral Home website.
Funds to Support
All contributions to the fund will go towards graduate student scholarships for UConn economics Ph.D. students and master’s students at El Instituto, with a preference for students working on topics related to Jorge’s research.
